Offset Way to Soundproof a Window Air Conditioner for Street Racket
There are two main problems with the framing material a/c units come with. The textile itself isn't a proficient sound barrier, and doesn't sit down flush against the unit, letting even more dissonance in.
Getting a custom-measured window insert cut to fit the shape of the window a/c unit of measurement volition block window air conditioner street noise. They are made of acrylic, which blocks better than glass, and surrounded by tubing on all sides. The tubing will press confronting the window frame and the a/c unit creating a noise barrier that compresses against every open area of your window.
To be able to install this soundproof window air conditioner:
- The sides of surrounding a/c must be at least 6" broad. Otherwise, the legs of the window insert gamble snapping off.
- Cutting the corners that surroundings the a/c unit reverses the process we commonly perform to create inserts. This increases the gamble of tearing the tubing effectually the insert.
- Optional: you can get out off the tubing and place weather stripping effectually the a/c unit of measurement.
- Check for dents in the a/c unit - this can make it harder to create an insert for.
Second Window Air Conditioner Street Racket Solution
Create two window inserts that fit into your window frame without an a/c unit in identify. These window inserts will be separated by a mullion . During the summer, remove the lower insert and install the window a/c unit. Place insulation on either side of the air conditioner and utilise weather condition stripping to fill the gap between the upper window insert and a/c unit.
Yous can besides use L brackets to keep the upper window insert in place if y'all don't want to install a mullion (but mullions have the all-time racket reduction). If yous don't want to just stare at insulation from the outside of your house, you can decorate it still yous want—paint, stickers, glitter—nosotros won't guess. Just don't use solvents that will dissolve the insulation.
You create the foam "insert" just similar the acrylic panels above. Make a U shape that will go around the a/c unit and fit in the window. Push button it in effectually the unit then information technology'south snug. You can squeeze it back out when y'all desire to remove the air conditioner. Be careful not to damage the foam or the a/c unit of measurement.

Interesting ideas. In my place/case, the areas surrounding the A/C units are already filled pretty well with either acrylic or insulation, but the street noise is coming through – loud and clear – via the A/C unit itself; they're simply holes in the window to the exterior world, covered with an air filter and a plastic grille. I've been looking for some kind of condom or plastic "shoe" of sorts that could be fitted over the grille of the A/C units, specifically to block the noise that passes through the units.
Howdy, Chris. This is certainly a difficult issue to resolve. When the Air-conditioning is turned off, you could put a box over information technology. Otherwise, you're exactly right in that you lot are dealing with a hole in your wall.
